September 2012: First Week

This first week of September was mostly spent just getting ready for the second week of September, which is when Tom's vacation. We decided to spend most of the week at home, and do fun things around the city as well as get some things done around the house to get ready for another baby. But, we also planned to do a short trip over to Gettysburg, so I spent some time getting ready for that.

So here's some day to day stuff. We didn't really do anything for Labor day except hang out and relax. Here is Amelia enjoying her first Oreo.

Tom has been working on getting our third bedroom cleared out and ready for Oliver. I had a LOT of craft and sewing stuff in there, and we had a desk and paperwork in there, and Tom had some of his camping and guitar stuff in there. It all got moved piece by piece down to the laundry room, and he did a great job of setting up a little office/sewing/craft area down there.
On a side note, I am very impressed with how much fits in our laundry room. Lots of filled shelves, a full size treadmill, a refrigerator, a desk, a freestanding cupboard...oh, and a washer and dryer and furnace and a/c unit. And there is still room to walk around! Tom has some pretty strong skills in making things fit.

So, once the room was cleared out, we dug up some baby things, and moved the glider from Amelia's room to Oliver's. Just for fun, we put Amelia in the little portable bassinet that she spent so much time in as a baby. She actually slept nights in here until she was six weeks old and moved to the crib. She didn't love the cradle, so we put this inside the cradle next to our bed, and that's how she slept. Picky baby.

She was skeptical to say the least.

And she barely fit.

Then we let her check out the cradle.

She liked it a bit more.

But what she really liked was running around on the bed. This is staying in the room for awhile. Our lofty idea is that Oliver will stay in our room in the cradle and when he's ready for Amelia's crib, Amelia will be ready for this bed. And then we'll swap the beds. But who knows. He might be in the cradle longer than we think, or we just might have to break down and get a second crib. We'll cross that road when we get there.

A typical day starts with the dumping of the toy basket. Because she just can't stand to see them all in one contained place. They must be scattered about.

She loves that guitar so much. Thanks again to cousin Lacey for the great gift!

She's really into moving things one by one to new places. Here she is moving the stuffed animals to the kitchen. She also enjoys taking the blankets and burp cloths off the shelf and making a pile in the middle of the floor. Or taking the books off the shelves and making a pile on the couch. Maybe this is some sort of 13 month old re-arrangement phase?

On Sunday, the day before Tom's first official day of vacation, we went to an event called "A Fair in the Park." It was in a part of Pittsburgh that we never go to (we really hardly go downtown at all) but it was fun and totally worth the trip. It's a lot like the Fall Festival in Corvallis, for those who know what I'm talking about. (But I secretly am partial to the Corvallis version) A lot of arts and crafts are for sale, there's live music, food, etc. It was a beautiful day and I loved walking around the park under the trees and checking out the art. This type of thing is totally up my alley, and Tom seems to enjoy it as well. There's always some sort of cool oddity to see at these events, made by some very creative people. I love it. I have to remember to go again next year.

We walked around all the booths, and then let Amelia loose in this little park area off to the side while we waited for the band to start.

I think they were checking out a bee on the flowers?

This is Amelia pointing out yet another dog. There were a lot of dogs getting walked around the park and each one was the new highlight of her day. She is very much into animals right now, and will spot and point them out from a mile away. The pointed comes with some pretty excited and enthusiastic sounds, which always makes me smile.

And here is the very original band, with their very unique instruments and sound.

And we finished the day with Amelia showing us her new discovery. I am dreading the day that her head doesn't go back as easy as it went through. But for now she has fun with it, and who am I to deny her that?
